Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested After Baby and Toddler Critically Injured

San Bernardino police have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with a violent hit-and-run crash that left a baby and a toddler hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, identified as Chester Lamont Gordon of San Bernardino, was taken into custody on December 5 after investigators received multiple tips from the public, according to the San Bernardino Police Department.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on December 1, as several families with young children were walking home from a nearby dog park. While crossing the road near Arrowhead Avenue and 27th Street, a vehicle plowed into a baby stroller, sending a 3-year-old child flying to the ground and dragging the stroller, still carrying a 3-month-old infant, more than 350 feet down the block, police said.

The driver did not stop.

Both children were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. As of Wednesday, family members say the toddlers remain in critical condition and are “fighting for their lives.”

Detectives, who described the case as a top priority, credited community members for providing information that ultimately led to Gordon’s arrest outside his home. He was booked on felony hit-and-run and reckless driving charges.

Relatives of the victims say the children’s parents, Marcelo and Karina Burgos, have remained at their bedsides since the crash and are facing significant medical expenses. A GoFundMe page has been created to support the family as the children continue treatment.

Authorities say the investigation remains active, and no further details have been released.
