High School Teacher Accused Of Trying To Hire Student To Kill Her Husband

A teacher at The Academy For Urban Scholars High School in Columbus, Ohio, is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to hire a student to kill her husband. Authorities said that Stephanie Demetrius, 44, allegedly offered a student $2,000 to carry out the murder of her soon-to-be ex-husband.

Court documents reveal that Demetrius approached the student on March 26, initially paying $250 as a down payment. The Columbus Division of Police has gathered digital evidence, including a recorded phone call in which Demetrius assured the student that the remaining payment was not an issue. The plan was uncovered when the student’s mother found suspicious information on her son’s phone and contacted the authorities. Sgt. James Fuqua of the Columbus Division of Police stated, “Without their help, some of this might not have come to light.”

Demetrius allegedly provided details about her estranged husband’s schedule, noting when their children would be out of the house and that he worked from home. She reportedly dismissed concerns about potential noise from gunfire affecting neighbors. The couple, who married in 2004, is currently undergoing divorce proceedings.

During a virtual hearing, Demetrius’s public defender denied the charges, labeling them as fabrications.

Demetrius was immediately fired once the charges were brought against her.

“The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority,” the Academy for Urban Scholars High School said in the statement. “We remain committed to maintaining a secure, focused learning environment where students can thrive academically and personally.”
