Police are investigating a troubling discovery at the Hermosa School of Dance and Music in Hermosa Beach. On Saturday, parents found hidden cameras in wicker baskets inside the studio’s unisex bathrooms. Officers responded to the 1100 block of Aviation Boulevard around 9:30 a.m. after the cameras were reported.
The Hermosa Beach Police Department stated that it is unclear how long the cameras had been there. However, they were promptly removed from the restrooms, which are used by staff, parents, and students ranging from ages two to 18. According to KTLA, the school’s owner, Liliana Somma, expressed her shock and heartbreak over the discovery. She has owned the dance school for over 25 years and is now working with police to identify those responsible.
Somma has taken measures to ensure the safety of her students by hiring a company to conduct a thorough sweep of the studio. She has also installed devices that detect hidden cameras and added surveillance cameras in the hallways to monitor who enters and exits the building. “We just installed devices that now will pick up any cameras,” Somma told ABC7.
Police have yet to make any arrests or identify suspects in this case. They believe it to be an isolated incident and are actively investigating all available leads. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Hermosa Beach Police Department at 310-318-0360. The community remains on alert as the investigation continues.
