‘General Hospital’ Actor Ron Hale Dead At 78

Soap opera actor Ron Hale, best known for roles on General Hospital and Ryan’s Hope, died at the age of 78 last month, according to an online obituary by Bryant Funeral Home, Inc. in St. George, South Carolina.

Hale’s cause of death has not yet been publicly confirmed. The actor played Mike Corbin — which earned him two nominations for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and a Soap Opera Digest Award — on the ABC soap opera General Hospital for 238 episodes between 1995 and 2010 and its spinoff, Port Charles for 46 episodes between 1997 and 2000.

“The entire General Hospital Family is saddened to hear of Ron Hale’s passing. We would like to extend our condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time. He was an incredible actor and an unforgettable colleague. May he rest in peace,” General Hospital wrote on its X account Wednesday (October 2).

Hale’s former General Hospital co-star, Billy Warlock, also shared a post paying tribute to the late actor.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve lost another great one. My dear friend Ron Hale has passed away. Ron was an amazing talent and an even better friend. I will miss you,” Warlock wrote on his X account.

Hale, a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, made his onscreen debut in an episode of N.Y.P.D. in 1968 and his soap opera debut on CBS Search for Tomorrow in 1969 and is also credited for roles in the films Me, Natalie, All the President’s Men and Trial by Jury, as well as the television shows Matlock and MacGyver.
