ALTADENA, Calif. – The Benn Family Band, a group of five musicians from Altadena who lost their homes in the January wildfires, will take the stage in America’s Got Talent live rounds on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Five family members, led by mother Laurie Benn and daughter Loren, first captured America’s heart during their audition earlier this season. Their emotional performance of “Rescue” by Lauren Daigle brought judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel, and Mel B to an emotional climax, earning a standing ovation and sending them straight to the next round.
For the Benns, the moment was about more than just music. “We lost everything,” Laurie said. “Our house, our church, our community space, all gone in the fire. But what we didn’t lose was our music. Singing is what’s kept us together.”
Her daughter Loren added that stepping on the AGT stage gave her the courage to reclaim hope: “We wanted people to know that even in your darkest moment, you’re not alone.”
The family’s message of resilience has resonated with viewers nationwide, who flooded social media with support after their audition aired.
Executive producer and showrunner Sam Donnelly said their story embodies what America’s Got Talent is all about: “You really connect with them on a human level.”
Now, the Benn Family Band is preparing for their biggest performance yet: the America’s Got Talent live show, where viewers will have the chance to vote for their future in the competition.
For the Benns, the performance is both a chance to showcase their talent and a way to honor their community. “Every time we sing, we’re singing for Altadena,” Loren said.
Watch the Benn Family Band on America’s Got Talent, Sept. 2nd, at 8 PM on NBC.
This special report first aired Sept. 2nd on Wake Up Call with Amy King.
