Frantic 911 Call Details Struggle To Find Kayakers Attacked By Alligator

A kayaking trip in Polk County, Florida, turned into a life-threatening situation on Monday (March 3) when an alligator attacked a woman. The group of about 30 kayakers was returning to Lake Kissimmee State Park from Tiger Lake when the incident occurred near the Polk-Osceola County line. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reported that the attack happened around 1 p.m.

According to a 45-minute 911 call, the woman suffered a significant bite to her elbow, causing her to go into shock. The caller described the chaos as the group tried to help her while fearing the aggressive reptile’s presence. The alligator also snatched a life vest from another kayaker, adding to the group’s distress.

The remote and marshy terrain complicated rescue efforts, as there was no boat ramp to facilitate a quick evacuation. The caller mentioned the difficulty in bandaging the woman’s arm due to her intense pain. The group was eventually located by a helicopter, which guided an airboat to their position. The injured woman was airlifted to a nearby hospital, but her current condition remains unknown.

The FWC later captured and removed the 8-foot-4-inch alligator.
