Former Super Bowl Champion Alshon Jeffery Arrested: Report

Former NFL wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was reportedly arrested for insurance fraud in California on Wednesday (April 15), TMZ Sports reports.

Jeffery, who was a Pro Bowler with the Chicago Bears in 2013 and Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, was reportedly taken into custody for conceal/fail to disclose insurance benefit or payment in connection with the incident, though additional details weren’t released. The former wide receiver has since been released from custody and his representative, Denise White, said he “categorically denies the allegations” in a statement to the New York Post.

“The underlying incident was a minor freeway fender bender, and he provided his information at the scene,” the statement reads. “These are unfounded allegations only, and Alshon has not been convicted of any offense. He will address this matter through the legal process, and he remains confident that the facts will demonstrate this was a misunderstanding and nothing more.”

Conviction of felony insurance fraud carries a potential sentence of up to five years in state prison. Jeffery recorded 475 receptions for 6,786 yards and 46 touchdowns during nine NFL seasons, which included five with the Bears (2012-2016) and four with the Eagles (2017-2020).

The former South Carolina standout has the career record for touchdown receptions (23) and ranks second in receiving yards (3,042) and third in receptions (183) in program history and was selected as one of the 100 greatest Bears of All-Time during the franchise’s centennial season.
