Former Miss Universe contestant Kseniya Alexandrova died at the age of 30 weeks after an elk smashed through the windshield of her car during a freak accident last month, PEOPLE reports.
Alexandrova, who was Vice-Miss Russia in 2017, suffered severe brain injuries when the elk flew through the windshield of the Porsche Panamera she and her husband were traveling in in Tver Oblast, Russia, on July 5, according to Russian media outlets. The former pageant contestant was in the passenger seat at the time of the collision and suffered significant trauma that left her in a coma until her death on Friday (August 15), while her husband, who was driving, survived the crash.
“From the moment it jumped out to the impact, a split second passed. I didn’t have time to do anything,” her husband told Russian outlet RIA in a statement.
“The elk flew into the car. The blow hit Ksyusha in the head. She was unconscious, her head was broken, everything was covered in blood,” he added.
The front of Alexandrova’s skull was shattered by the elk’s legs, which went through the window of the of the Porsche, according to her husband. The couple had just been married four months prior to the fatal accident, according to a translated post on Alexandrova’s Instagram account.
“I never thought that one event could sound inside for so long,” she wrote along with photos from her wedding. “I remember every second and it seems that I am still experiencing the whirlwind of emotions 🙂
“There was so much love, joy and sincere feelings on this day that the heart is still full of them. Thanks to everyone who was with us – it’s priceless!”
