Former Los Angeles Police Department Captain Cory Palka will not face prosecution for allegedly leaking confidential information about sexual abuse allegations against ex-CBS President Les Moonves.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced on Friday that the statute of limitations had expired, preventing any legal action.
Palka, known as “Captain Hollywood,” was accused by New York Attorney General Leticia James of informing CBS executives about a confidential sexual assault complaint filed on November 10, 2017. According to James, Palka left a voicemail for CBS’s Senior Vice President Ian Metrose, revealing details of the complaint and advising him before it became public.
The allegations surfaced during an investigation into insider trading at CBS, which uncovered Palka’s actions. Text messages showed that Palka worked with CBS executives to keep the complaint under wraps and provided updates on the situation.
Despite the serious nature of the accusations, including charges of soliciting a bribe and obstructing a police investigation, the case cannot proceed due to the expired statute of limitations. Former LAPD Chief Michael Moore called Palka’s actions a breach of trust and initiated an investigation into potential involvement by other officers.
Palka, who retired in 2021, has denied any wrongdoing. The allegations against him arose amidst the broader #MeToo movement, as CBS and Moonves faced scrutiny for their handling of sexual assault claims. Moonves resigned from CBS in September 2018.
