Former Disney Imagineer Creates Healing Space for Cancer Patients

A new spiritual healing space designed by former Disney Imagineer Robert Holzberg has debuted in Southern California. This innovative center, located at City of Hope Orange County, offers a unique, immersive experience for cancer patients and their families to find solace and release their worries.

Holzberg, known for his work on the “Soaring Around the World” attraction, applied his expertise in creating immersive environments to design the Wetterau Family Spiritual Center. This multi-faith space allows visitors to experience a Christian chapel, Hindu mandir, Islamic mosque, Jewish synagogue, and Buddhist temple with the touch of a button. The center also features familiar settings like a shoreline and forest, providing a personalized spiritual journey for each visitor.

The center was inspired by Holzberg’s own experiences during cancer treatment. He realized that the blank walls of medical facilities did little to uplift the spirit. Holzberg said, “You wanna make a family feel like they are in a safe place together where they can feel and heal.” The center also offers private rooms for counseling and spiritual encounters, catering to the diverse needs of patients and their families.

City of Hope Orange County President Annette Walker emphasized the importance of the center, stating, “You might be at the frailest point of your life and you come in here and get a touch of the sacred.” The spiritual center will be available to patients when City of Hope Orange County opens later this year.
