A Florida mother was taken into custody for allegedly leaving her five-year-old son alone in a Miami Beach park as a punishment for misbehaving. Authorities said they received a 911 call saying that the woman, identified as 20-year-old Alize Angel Rodriguez, had left Flamingo Park with a man in a gray Toyota, leaving the young boy behind.
The caller said they waited about 20 minutes to see if she would return to pick up her son. They also noted that Rodriguez was incoherent and appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol before she left the area.
When officers arrived, they found the boy, who told them that his mother would often leave him alone in the park if he misbehaved. The officers located Rodriguez walking nearby and took her into custody. They found Xanax pills and marijuana in her purse, which she allegedly discarded in a bush before she was arrested. She denied being under the influence of drugs at the time.
However, according to WPLG, Rodriguez made an admission to the officers, which was redacted in the police report.
Rodriguez was charged with child neglect without great bodily harm, possession of a controlled substance, and cannabis possession.
Her son was taken to the police station and released to his grandmother. Rodriguez was booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and has since been released.
