Greek police have charged five individuals in connection with the murder of UC Berkeley professor Przemyslaw Jeziorski. Among those charged are Jeziorski’s ex-wife and her current partner. Jeziorski, a 43-year-old economist and professor of marketing at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, was shot multiple times on July 4 while visiting Athens for a family custody hearing and to see his children.
The ex-wife’s current boyfriend has confessed to the murder and faces charges of premeditated murder. Three other male suspects, including two Albanian nationals and a Bulgarian national, are charged as accomplices. Jeziorski’s ex-wife is charged as a moral accomplice, though she denies involvement.
The shooting occurred in the suburb of Agia Paraskevi, near the home of Jeziorski’s ex-wife. Witnesses reported seeing a masked gunman approach Jeziorski and fire multiple shots, hitting him in the neck and chest. Seven bullet casings were recovered at the scene.
Jeziorski’s children, who are U.S. and Polish citizens, are now in Greek protective custody. The family expressed gratitude to Greek authorities for their swift action and to the U.S. and Polish consulates for their support. They hope to repatriate Jeziorski’s remains to Poland.
Jeziorski was a beloved faculty member at UC Berkeley, known for his passion for teaching data analytics. He was also the co-founder of a start-up called Keybee with his ex-wife. The family has started a fundraiser to cover repatriation and legal costs.
