A fireworks explosion severely injured a man and partially destroyed a home in Pacoima, Los Angeles, on Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. on the 13500 block of Remington Street. Emergency responders found the 40-year-old man with critical burns and transported him to a nearby hospital, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).
The explosion’s force was so powerful that it sent the roof of the single-story home into the air before it collapsed. Witness Fernando Emmel described seeing the injured man “covered in blisters and blood,” with his clothing smoking and a gash on his neck. Emmel and others assisted the man until emergency crews arrived.
Firefighters and other agencies, including the LAFD Hazmat and Arson teams, LAPD Bomb Squad, and the Department of Water and Power, responded to the scene. They coordinated efforts to ensure the structural safety of the home before entering to rescue four dogs believed to be inside. By 10:30 a.m., two dogs were safely removed, and a third was located unharmed. The condition of the fourth dog remains unknown.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation, with initial reports suggesting fireworks as the likely source. Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the blast. Officials are also assessing the damage to the structure to ensure it is safe for further inspection and rescue efforts.
