Fire Damages Commercial Building in South LA Area

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A fire damaged a commercial building housing a marijuana growing operation in the south Los Angeles area Thursday, but no one was hurt, authorities said.

Firefighters sent to the 800 block of East 62nd Street about 6:50 a.m. extinguished the flames in about an hour, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire was confined to “a one story section of a row of combination one- and two-story buildings with an attached three story silo,” Humphrey said in a statement.

“The one-story section, with dense interior construction, contained an apparently licensed cannabis cultivation business that had reportedly been undergoing some manner of repair,” Humphrey said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
