Fire Consumes Three-Story Building Under Construction; No Injuries Reported

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Firefighters in South Los Angeles Sunday knocked down a major emergency structure fire that consumed a three-story, wood framed building under construction and spread to two nearby homes as well as several detached buildings, authorities said.

The 120 firefighters dispatched at 4:06 a.m. to 217 E. Vernon Ave. had the blaze out at 4:50 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

“Although there were initial concerns of structural or scaffolding collapse, everything remained standing during the fire fight,” said Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department. “At least 10 people have been displaced and Red Cross is responding to assist them.”

No injuries were reported and a cause of the fire was under investigation
