A fire broke out at the hotel where the Dallas Cowboys are staying during training camp in Oxnard, California, on Tuesday (August 20), the team confirmed in a statement shared on its official website.
The fire took place in a guest room while players and coaches were participating in a walkthrough several hundred yards away and reported by several staff members who noticed smoke coming from the unoccupied building.
“There was a fire emergency in one of the guest rooms this afternoon at the team’s hotel in Oxnard, Calif. The emergency was contained to one room that was empty at the time, and there were no injuries. The Dallas Cowboys thank the Oxnard Fire Department and Oxnard Police Department for their quick response and reaction to the situation,” the Cowboys said in a statement shared at 6:10 p.m. PT.
The cause of the fire was not determined at the time of the Cowboys’ statement. The team completed its afternoon walkthrough without interruption and is scheduled to hold its final padded practice in Oxnard on Wednesday (August 21) before returning to Dallas on Thursday (August 22) afternoon ahead of their final preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers at AT&T Stadium on Saturday (August 24).
