Four Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) employees were dismissed for allegedly bypassing protocols and using agency funds to pay for hotel accommodations for migrants in New York City. Elon Musk said that the $59 million payment was made last week.
“Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order. That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high-end hotels for illegals!” Musk wrote on X.
“A clawback demand will be made today to recoup those funds,” he added.
The Department of Homeland Security said that the fired individuals were FEMA’s Chief Financial Officer, two program analysts, and a grant specialist.
“Under President Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership, DHS will not sit idly and allow deep state activists to undermine the will and safety of the American people,” DHS said in a statement.
According to Fox News, $19 million was spent on direct hotel costs, while the remaining $34 million was used to cover the cost of food, security, and other services.
