LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Accused drug lord Ryan Wedding — a former Canadian Olympic snowboarder who has been on the run — was arrested by the FBI, the agency announced Friday.
Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell was set to join FBI Director Kash Patel and other officials, including a Royal Canadian Mounted Police commissioner, at a news conference at Ontario International Airport in San Bernardino for what was described as a major announcement in an ongoing investigation.
Wedding, 44, was taken into custody in Mexico City on Wednesday, Patel said at the news conference.
There had been a $15 million reward offered for information leading to his capture and conviction. Patel said the U.S. ambassador in Mexico quarterbacked the investigation over the last year, which led to Wedding’s capture. It was not immediately clear if the ambassador was in line for the reward.
“I also want to give a huge shout to state and local law enforcement,” Patel said. “This is an enterprise-wide success.”
