Investigators in San Bernardino County are continuing their search for missing seven-month-old Emmanuel Haro. On Saturday, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department released a statement saying that they ‘could not rule out foul play’ in the case.
Authorities have taken the couple’s two-year-old child into protective custody and searched their home with cadaver dogs. An independent group that initially offered a reward for Emmanuel’s recovery has withdrawn its offer and suspended its search efforts due to inconsistencies in the parents’ accounts.
The boy’s mother, Rebecca Haro, reported that Emmanuel was kidnapped while she was changing his diaper at a park on Thursday. She claimed she was attacked from behind and lost consciousness, only to find Emmanuel missing when she awoke. However, inconsistencies in her story have led to increased scrutiny from law enforcement. According to KTLA, both parents have been less than cooperative with the investigation, with Rebecca refusing to continue speaking with authorities after being confronted with inconsistencies.
Adding to the complexity of the case, Daily Mail reports that Emmanuel’s father, Jake Mitchell Haro, has a felony conviction for child cruelty from a 2018 incident in Hemet. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 48 months of probation. Jake is scheduled to appear in court in early September for an alleged probation violation.
The Uvalde Foundation for Kids, which initially offered a $5,000 reward, has withdrawn its support, citing the parents’ lack of cooperation and inconsistencies in their accounts. “We cannot in good conscience, utilize our team and resources when so much is missing in this case,” the foundation’s founder, Daniel Chapin, told Yahoo News.
Despite the ongoing investigation, Emmanuel remains missing. He is described as 24 inches tall, weighing about 21 pounds, with brown hair and eyes, and was last seen wearing a black Nike onesie.
