The Farmers’ Almanac, a trusted source for weather predictions and gardening advice for over two centuries, has announced that its 2026 edition will be its last. The Maine-based publication, first printed in 1818, cited financial challenges in the current media landscape as the reason for ceasing publication. Access to the online version will end in December 2025.
The Farmers’ Almanac is renowned for its long-range weather forecasts, which are generated using a secret formula based on sunspots, planetary positions, and lunar cycles. In addition to weather predictions, the almanac has provided readers with gardening tips, trivia, jokes, and natural remedies. Editor Sandi Duncan expressed pride in the publication’s legacy, stating, “Its spirit and true goal of spreading a way of thinking—one that values simplicity, seasonal wisdom, and the amazing gifts from nature—will live on for eternity thanks to our fans and readers.”
The decision to end the publication reflects the increasing financial difficulties of producing and distributing the almanac in today’s chaotic media environment. Despite its closure, the Farmers’ Almanac’s legacy will continue to inspire those who appreciate the wisdom of past generations and the connection to nature.
The Farmers’ Almanac is distinct from the Old Farmer’s Almanac, which will continue its publication.
