The blast occurred around 11 a.m. local time near North Indian Canyon Drive and East Tachevah Drive. Authorities, including local police and firefighters, quickly responded to the scene and advised residents to avoid the area.
The explosion, which could be felt miles away, damaged the front portion of the clinic but fortunately left the IVF lab and stored embryos unharmed. Dr. Maher Abdallah, the clinic’s founder, confirmed that all staff members were safe, and no patients were scheduled for the day. Dr. Abdallah expressed relief, stating, “Thank God today happened to be a day that we have no patients” (KAAL-TV reported).
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has joined local investigators to determine the cause of the explosion. The blast’s impact shattered windows in nearby businesses and sent a large plume of smoke into the air. Nima Tabrizi, a visitor from Santa Monica, described the scene, saying, “The building just shook, and we go outside and there’s massive cloud smoke” (Fox 5 San Diego reported).
While there have been no confirmed injuries, reports indicate at least one fatality. Lt. William Hutchinson of the Palm Springs Police Department mentioned that authorities are investigating whether the explosion was an act of terrorism.
Governor Gavin Newsom has been briefed on the incident and is coordinating with the state’s Office of Emergency Services to support the response. As investigations continue, authorities have not ruled out any possibilities, including foul play or accidental causes. The area remains cordoned off as a precaution, and residents are urged to report any unusual activity.
