“We are heartbroken to share the news of the passing of our beloved Coach Sam,” the team wrote in a tribute post shared on its Instagram account. “Coach Sam Linehan was a cherished skater, coach, mentor, and friend whose impact reached far beyond the ice. A dedicated leader, Coach Sam devoted time and heart to supporting and developing skaters while instilling the values of discipline, teamwork, integrity, and resilience.
“This loss is both sudden and profoundly heartbreaking for athletes, staff, and the entire skating community. Focus remains on supporting Sam’s family and ensuring skaters have the care and resources needed during this incredibly difficult time.
“Respect for the privacy of Sam’s family and loved ones is kindly requested as they grieve. Coach Sam will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always a part of this community.”
Linehan represented the St. Louis Synergy and Team USA at the 2014 Synchronized Skating championships, where she earned a silver medal.
“She was by far one of the most naturally talented kids I had coached,” said longtime coach Ramona Peterson via KSDK. “But beyond that, she was incredibly dedicated.”
Brown is accused of robbing multiple bank cards and a driver’s license from Linehan before running away from the scene prior to being arrested early Wednesday (February 11) morning. The suspect, who has a criminal history dating back to the 1980s, was wanted for two armed robberies that took place days before Linehan’s death, according to FOX 2 Now.
Brown was wearing the high-visibility vest and helmet when he approached a vehicle at a Jack in the Box drive-thru, pointed a gun at the driver and stole a purse, a 9mm handgun and the driver’s daughter’s phone on February 6 and had also committed an armed robbery at a Dollar General store on February 8. The suspect is reported to have fired at least three shots during the three incidents.
Officials seized the stolen items from the first and third robberies, as well as the neon high-visibility vest and suspected narcotics following Brown’s arrest. The suspect is being held at the St. Louis City Justice Center without bond.
