Ex-CHP Captain Faces Charges for In-Flight Misconduct

Dennis Wally Woodbury, a former California Highway Patrol captain, has been charged with sexually abusing a flight attendant during a JetBlue flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Los Angeles on April 13. Prosecutors allege that the 49-year-old, from Azusa, California, engaged in inappropriate conduct with two male flight attendants. According to the criminal complaint, Woodbury consumed a bottle of prosecco during the flight, slapped one attendant’s buttocks, and exposed himself to another.

Before the plane even left the gate, Woodbury allegedly showed a flight attendant a picture with pornographic content in the background, prompting the attendant to react with shock. During the flight, Woodbury reportedly made crude gestures and suggested going on a cruise with one of the attendants. He later exposed himself twice after being denied more alcohol.

Woodbury is charged with a felony count of abusive sexual contact within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States, which carries a potential sentence of up to two years in federal prison. He is currently out on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment on May 12 in Los Angeles.

The flight attendants confirmed to law enforcement that they did not consent to Woodbury’s behavior, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. Woodbury’s attorney, Annick Jordan, has declined to comment on the case.
