Former ‘American Ninja Warrior’ champion Andrew Dreschel was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for child exploitation by Chief U.S. District Judge Renée M. Bumb on Wednesday (June 27), the New York Post reports.
Dreschel, 35, who won $1 million on the sports entertainment reality show in 2020 and competed in eight seasons, pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography and knowingly enticing and coercing a minor to travel across state lines to engage in sex in June, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey announced at the time. Bumb also ruled that Dreschel must serve 15 years of supervised release and pay the victim $100,000 in restitution.
The victim, a New Jersey resident who initially went public with her accusations in 2019, claims she met and exchanged phone numbers with Dreschel, who was 26 at the time, at a parkour event she attended when she was just 14 years old in 2014, according to a criminal complaint. Dreschel invited the girl to his gym in Hamden, Connecticut, his hometown at the time, and the two had sex after his girlfriend left the facility, the victim told police.
The two kept contact over the next two years and had sex around New Jersey when the victim was between the ages of 15 and 17. Police searched Dreschel’s phones and found images of child sexual abuse, including photos and victims of the woman, in November 2019.
Dreschel, who was most recently living in Florida, was arrested and NBC announced it cut all ties with him.
