Evacuation Warnings Issued for LA, Orange County Burn Scar Areas

Evacuation warnings have been issued for several burn scar areas in Los Angeles and Orange Counties as officials brace for heavy rain and potential mudslides. The warnings will take effect on Thursday at 6 p.m. and remain in place until Sunday at 11 a.m. Residents in affected areas, including Canyon, Bethany, Eaton, Palisades, Hurst, Kenneth, Sunset, Lidia, Franklin, and Bridge fire burn areas, are urged to prepare for possible evacuation.

According to ABC News, the storm, characterized as a moderate atmospheric river, is expected to bring 1 to 3 inches of rain across much of Western California, with some areas receiving even more. The Los Angeles County Fire Department has advised residents in burn and flood-prone areas to avoid flood channels, catch basins, canyons, and waterways. Those who need more time to evacuate, such as older adults, families with young children, and individuals with pets or livestock, should consider leaving now.

ABC7 reports that notifications will be sent to residents via mass notification systems or in person by law enforcement. California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that emergency resources will be pre-deployed to protect communities in Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura Counties from mudslides and debris flow.
