In Los Angeles’ Echo Park neighborhood, residents are increasingly frustrated with the influx of food delivery drivers congesting their streets. According to a report by KTLA, these drivers are waiting for orders from Echo Park Eats, a ghost kitchen located at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Douglas Street. The kitchen, which opened in 2023, serves as a hub for app-based food delivery services and hosts 26 food vendors.
Residents like Sandy Romero have expressed concerns over the drivers idling in red zones, double parking, and occupying limited parking spaces. “The first day that they opened business, it was chaotic, unorganized and it’s just such a nuisance now,” Romero told the Los Angeles Times. Another resident noted that drivers would bring chairs and snacks, leaving trash behind, prompting him to cut down branches providing shade to deter them.
Efforts to address the situation have included permit parking and increased parking patrols, though these measures have led to further complications. Echo Park Eats attempted to limit parking on its lot to five minutes, but this resulted in drivers idling longer on the streets or parking on sidewalks. The business is classified as a catering operation, allowing it to operate near residential areas.
L.A. City Councilmember Hugo-Soto Martinez acknowledged the issue and is exploring solutions to restore peace to the neighborhood.
