Ebony Alert Issued For Teen Girl Who Went Missing in South LA

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – An Ebony Alert was issued Tuesday for a 14-year-old girl who went missing in South Los Angeles, authorities said.

Ty’Jhaya Richmond was last seen at about 1 a.m. Friday in the area of 88th Street and Budlong Avenue, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

Richmond was described as a 5-feet-8-inch tall Black female weighing approximately 100 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about Richmond or her whereabouts was urged to call the LAPD’s Hollenbeck station at 323-342-4191, or during non-business hours or weekends, at 877-527-3247. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.

The California Statewide Ebony Alert Program was introduced through Senate Bill 673 and became law in 2024. An Ebony Alert notifies the public of missing Black youth and women ages 12-25. The program aims to bridge the racial disparities of the children who go missing. Black youth account for 38% of missing persons cases; Black children make up close to 33% of missing child cases but receive less media attention according to analysts.
