LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A reported vault explosion at an apartment in the Park La Brea community Sunday turned out to be two blown electrical panels that were quickly repaired by a Department of Water and Power crew, officials said.
Firefighters were sent to 6240 W. Third St. at 4:29 a.m. in response to a security guard reporting smoke coming from the building, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Some residents were taken outside as a safety precaution, as a utility crew arrived to look at an electrical panel inside the structure that might have had a minor of amount fire, and a second panel in an underground parking lot, Humphrey said.
“We stood by as the DWP de-energized the building,” he said. “DWP said they would able to fix (the panels) and re-house the building.”
No injuries were reported and firefighters cleared the scene at about 6:15 a.m., he said.
