A man was arrested late Tuesday (October 21) after driving a vehicle into a Secret Service security checkpoint near the White House. The incident occurred at approximately 10:37 p.m. Eastern Time at the corner of 17th and E Streets NW in Washington, D.C. According to the Secret Service, the vehicle, identified as a 2010 Acura TSX with Maryland license plates, collided with the gate but was deemed safe after assessment by the Secret Service and the Metropolitan Police Department.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was immediately taken into custody by U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division officers. There is currently no indication of a motive or whether the collision was intentional.
President Trump was present in the White House at the time of the incident, but the Secret Service confirmed there was no threat to him. This incident follows a similar event in September when a man was arrested for ramming his car into the gates of the FBI field office in Pittsburgh.
