President-elect Donald Trump returned to the White House on Wednesday (November 13), where he met with President Joe Biden. It is the first time that Trump has been to the White House since he left office on January 20, 2021.
Biden promised Trump that he would work to ensure a “smooth transition” when Trump takes office in January.
“Well, Mr. President-elect, former president, Donald,” Biden said. “Congratulations.”
The two leaders shook hands as they sat together in the Oval Office.
“Politics is tough, and it’s, in many cases, not a very nice world, but it is a nice world today, and I appreciate it very much,” Trump said.
First Lady Jill Biden met briefly with Trump, giving him a handwritten letter of congratulations for Melania Trump, who declined to join her husband at the White House.
After losing the election in 2020, Trump did not extend an invitation to the Bidens to discuss the transition.
