LANCASTER (CNS) – Animal control officers partnered with firefighters to rescue a 9-month-old dog who got trapped for hours between two block walls in Lancaster on New Year’s Day.

Crews with stations 33 and 134 of the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded Thursday to assist Los Angeles County Animal Care & Control officers with a distress call for a Cane Corso named Sky, officials said.

“New Year’s Day started with a life hanging in the balance. Our officers responded to a call of an animal in distress. Turns out 9-month-old Sky had been trapped for hours in between two block walks,” according to the animal control department.

The fire department “showed up quickly, bringing special equipment and lots of love,” officials added. “They worked quickly and carefully to get this terrified pup to safety. Our medical team showed up to make sure Sky was OK. With patience, precision, and teamwork, Sky was saved.”

The dog’s owner surrendered Sky after learning that he would have to be neutered, according to animal control officials. He was taken to the Lancaster Care Center at 5210 W. Avenue I, and was under observation.

Those interested in adopting Sky if his condition allows were advised to check the shelter’s website, using his animal ID number (#A5747256), at animalcare.lacounty.gov.
