LOS ANGELES (CNS) – The Dodgers’ World Series opponent will be decided Monday when the Seattle Mariners face the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series in Toronto.
If the Mariners win, the Series will begin at Dodger Stadium. If the Blue Jays win, the Series will begin in Toronto.
The World Series will begin Friday, regardless of which team wins the American League Championship Series.
Toronto forced a decisive seventh game with a 6-2 victory in Game 6 Sunday in Toronto.
The Blue Jays had the best regular-season record among the three teams still in contention for the World Series, 94-68, matching the New York Yankees for the third-best record in Major League Baseball.
The Dodgers had the fifth-best record, 93-69, while Seattle tied the San Diego Padres for the seventh-best, 90-72.
The Mariners are trying to reach the World Series for the first time in their 49-season history. Toronto is seeking to return to the Series for the first time since it won the second of two back-to-back titles in 1993.
The Dodgers advanced to the World Series for the second consecutive season Friday night, completing a four-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series with a 5-1 victory at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers are the first defending World Series champion to return to the World Series since the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009. The Dodgers are attempting to become the first team to win consecutive World Series since the Yankees won three in a row from 1998-2000.
The Dodgers have never won back-to-back World Series.
