Dodgers To Face Toronto in World Series

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – The Dodgers will face the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series beginning Friday in Toronto.

The Blue Jays advanced to their first World Series since winning the second of two back-to-back titles in 1993 with a 4-3 victory in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series in Toronto Monday with George Springer hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Toronto forced a decisive seventh game with a 6-2 victory in Game 6 Sunday in Toronto.

The Blue Jays will have the home field advantage because their 94-68 record was better than the Dodgers’ 93-69. Toronto matched the New York Yankees for the third-best record in Major League Baseball while the Dodgers had the fifth-best record, 93-69.

The Dodgers won two of three games against the Blue Jays Aug. 8-10 in Toronto.

The Mariners were trying to reach the World Series for the first time in their 49-season history. This was their fourth appearance in the ALCS and first since 2001

The Dodgers advanced to the World Series for the second consecutive season Friday night, completing a four-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series with a 5-1 victory at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers are the first defending World Series champion to return to the World Series since the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009. The Dodgers are attempting to become the first team to win consecutive World Series since the Yankees won three in a row from 1998-2000.

The Dodgers have never won back-to-back World Series.
