Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw to Retire After 2025 Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Thursday that Clayton Kershaw, one of the most celebrated pitchers in baseball, will retire at the end of the 2025 season. The 37-year-old left-hander, who has spent his entire 18-year career with the Dodgers, will make his final regular-season start at Dodger Stadium on Friday against the San Francisco Giants.

Kershaw’s career is marked by remarkable achievements, including three National League Cy Young Awards, an MVP Award in 2014, and 11 All-Star selections. He has been instrumental in the Dodgers’ success, contributing to their World Series victories in 2020 and 2024. Over his career, Kershaw has maintained a 2.54 ERA and recently became the 20th pitcher to record over 3,000 strikeouts, ranking fourth among left-handed pitchers in this category.

Kershaw expressed his desire to retire as a Dodger, valuing his career-long association with the team that drafted him seventh overall in 2006. Dodgers owner Mark Walter praised Kershaw’s contributions, saying, “His is a truly legendary career, one that we know will lead to his induction in the Baseball Hall of Fame.”

Despite a resurgent season, Kershaw decided to retire on his terms, citing the desire to spend more time with his family. His retirement will mark the end of an era for the Dodgers, as Kershaw is expected to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, leaving a lasting legacy in Los Angeles and the baseball world.
