Dive teams recovered the bodies of four people who were trapped inside their cabins when a superyacht anchored off the coast of Sicily sank early Monday (August 19) morning, the New York Times reported.
Authorities have not released the identities of those who were pulled from the water.
The ‘Bayesian’ was anchored about a half mile from the port of Porticello when a freak storm struck the area at 5 a.m. local time on Monday. The storm reportedly spawned a waterspout that struck the boat, causing it to sink 165 feet to the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea.
Fifteen of the 22 people on the boat survived and were rescued. One person, the ship’s chef Recaldo Thomas, was pronounced dead, while six others were reported missing as divers attempted to locate them in the wreckage.
The missing individuals were identified as British billionaire and tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah; Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Judy; and lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, Neda.
