Disneyland enthusiasts in California will soon have the opportunity to showcase their love for the “Happiest Place on Earth” with a new specialized license plate.
Announced on Tuesday by the California State Treasurer’s Office, the Disneyland-themed plate aims to raise funds for children’s hospitals across the state. The license plate project will proceed through the California Department of Motor Vehicles application process once 7,500 fans express interest during the preorder phase.
The Disneyland license plate will cost $50 for a standard plate and $103 for a personalized version, in addition to a $40 to $83 annual DMV renewal fee. Proceeds from the sales will benefit 13 children’s hospitals in California, supporting kids with medical conditions such as cancer, congenital heart disease, and cystic fibrosis. The design review process for the plate will begin once the interest threshold is met, with the California Treasurer’s Office and DMV planning to reveal the design and launch presale orders in the coming months.
The initiative follows the success of a similar project in Florida, where a Disney World specialty license plate was released in 2021. By 2025, the sale of these plates had raised over $5 million for the Florida Make-A-Wish campaign.
Disneyland has a longstanding relationship with the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), with Walt Disney himself serving on the founding board and helping secure funds for its construction. The annual CHOC Walk at Disneyland raises up to $3 million each year for the hospital and has accumulated more than $40 million over the past three decades.
