A Delta Air Lines plane clipped another aircraft on the taxiway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday (September 10) morning.
Delta Air Lines Flight 295 to Tokoyo left the gate and was preparing for takeoff when its wingtip struck the tail of an Endeavor Air jet. The collision knocked the tail off Endeavor Air Flight 5526, which was on its way to Louisiana.
WFTS meteorologist Jason Adams was on Endeavor Air’s smaller Bombardier CRJ900 when it was struck by the larger Airbus A350.
“Well that was terrifying. 😳😳😳 Taxiing out for the flight from Atlanta to Louisiana and another plane appears to have clipped the back of our plane. Very jarring, metal scraping sounds then loud bangs. We’re fine. No fire or smoke,” Adams wrote on X, along with several photos from the scene.
Adams was on his way to Louisana to help the local news stations cover Tropical Storm Francine.
The Delta Air Lines plane returned to the gate, while the passengers on the CRJ900 had to deplane on the taxiway. They were then bussed back to the terminal.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
