Daycare Worker Accused Of Poisoning Toddlers With Laxatives

A daycare teacher in Illinois faces multiple criminal charges after allegedly giving chewable laxatives to toddlers under her care, according to police.

Yizel J. Juarez, 23, of Sycamore, Illinois, was charged with three counts of attempted aggravated battery causing bodily harm to victims under 13 years old and three counts of endangering the life or health of a child, according to the St. Charles Police Department.

The investigation began on Tuesday when multiple parents contacted authorities reporting that their children had been given laxatives while attending a daycare facility in the 2400 block of West Main Street in St. Charles.

Police identified three victims, all two years old or younger, who had allegedly been given the medication by Juarez, who worked as a teacher at the facility.

Parents had been struggling to understand why their young children were experiencing unexplained symptoms for weeks before discovering the cause.

Juarez surrendered herself to police following the investigation. After being processed, she was released from custody and given a future court date to face the charges, which include both felonies and misdemeanors.

St. Charles police are asking anyone with additional information about the case to contact investigators at 630-377-4435.
