DA Files Attempted Murder Charges In Wild Truck Chase That Ended In Crash

Adam James Bowen,40, is facing 11 felony charges following a dramatic high-speed chase in Los Angeles County last Friday. The chase, which was broadcast live, ended in a violent multi-car crash at an intersection in Long Beach. According to the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office, Bowen is charged with attempted murder, carjacking, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of hit-and-run resulting in serious injury, and one count each of fleeing a pursuing police officer’s vehicle, resisting arrest, and grand theft of an automobile.

The incident began when Bowen allegedly carjacked a tow truck operator and attempted to run him down, causing major injuries. Later, he reportedly stole a white flatbed truck, initiating a pursuit near the University of Southern California. As the chase progressed, Bowen collided with several vehicles while speeding through multiple communities.

In Long Beach, Sky5 footage captured Bowen sideswiping cars and running a red light at East 7th Street and Termino Avenue. The truck then crashed into two vehicles and rolled into a parking lot. Bowen exited the vehicle and was apprehended by officers after a brief attempt to flee on foot.

L.A. County District Attorney Nathan Hochman described the act as “extremely reckless and brazen,” emphasizing the potential for a more tragic outcome. If convicted on all charges, Bowen could face life in prison.
