Culver City Police Investigating Early Morning Carjacking

CULVER CITY (CNS) – Police were investigating a carjacking that occurred early Tuesday at a gas station in Culver City.

Officers were sent to the Mobil station at 5776 Washington Blvd. at about 1:40 a.m., according to Sgt. Edward Baskaron of the Culver City Police Department.

“Shortly after the call was dispatched, officers located the stolen vehicle disabled in a nearby residential neighborhood,” Baskaron said in a statement. “The officers attempted to contact the male driver who was the solo vehicle occupant. The driver fled on foot into nearby residential backyards.”

Officers established a perimeter near where the Mercedes SUV was found, in the area of Caroline and Sherbourne avenues south of Jacob Street, and warned residents to stay indoors, police said.

“During the investigation, officers learned that the vehicle was carjacked and taken by physical force and that the victim was injured during the crime,” Baskaron said. “The male victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”

The suspect was not found, and the search was called off. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call police at 310-253-6316.
