Cruise Line Redeploys Popular Ship, Upending Vacation Plans For Travelers

Royal Caribbean has announced the cancellation of 20 upcoming voyages aboard the Freedom of the Seas, affecting thousands of passengers. The cruise line cited dynamic deployment planning as the reason for the changes, as reported by Fox News. The vessel will be redeployed to Southampton for the summer 2027 season.

The affected itineraries, scheduled between May and September 2027, include 5-night cruises to the Dominican Republic, 4-night Bahamian getaways, and 9-night trips to Aruba and Curaçao. Passengers were notified via email and offered options such as rebooking on alternative sailings or receiving full refunds. Royal Caribbean Blog reported that guests could move to a 4-night cruise on the Wonder of the Seas from Miami at a prorated rate.

For those unable to find suitable alternatives, Royal Caribbean will issue refunds within 14 business days. The cruise line’s decision to redeploy the ship aligns with its strategy to increase capacity in the UK and Ireland markets.

The Freedom of the Seas, launched in 2006, will continue sailing from Miami, Florida, until April 2027. The cruise line has not yet confirmed when the new Southampton itineraries will be available for booking.
