Jake Mitchell Haro, 32, and Rebecca Rene Haro, 41, are due back in court Thursday at the Riverside Hall of Justice for their arraignment on murder and other charges related to the disappearance and death of their seven-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro. The couple, from Cabazon, was arrested last month following a multi-agency investigation into the baby’s disappearance.
The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office has charged the couple with murder and filing a false police report. Each is being held on $1 million bail, with Jake Haro at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning and Rebecca Haro at the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside.
According to NBC Los Angeles, District Attorney Mike Hestrin stated that Emmanuel’s death resulted from prolonged abuse. The child’s body has not been found, but forensic evidence led investigators to conclude that the crime occurred in Riverside County. The investigation began when Emmanuel was reported missing on August 14, with Rebecca Haro claiming she was attacked and the baby was abducted.
Jake Haro has a history of child abuse, having pleaded guilty in 2023 to child cruelty involving another child. Hestrin criticized the previous judge’s decision to keep Haro on probation, suggesting that had the judge acted differently, Emmanuel might still be alive.
The couple’s legal proceedings are expected to continue as investigators search for more evidence and possibly locate the child’s remains. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the authorities.
