Councilmember Park Targets Tour Buses in Pacific Palisades

Councilmember Traci Park has introduced a motion to halt tour bus operations in Pacific Palisades following reports of “disaster tours” in the aftermath of the Palisades Fire. The area, which was closed to the public until June 14, has seen tour operators conducting tours in the fire zone, which Park described as “despicable” and an exploitation of tragedy for profit. “Turning a site of devastating tragedy and loss into a spectacle is despicable and should not be tolerated in the City of Los Angeles,” Park stated in her motion.

The Palisades Fire, which began in January, led to significant destruction in the area. According to the Los Angeles Times, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been working at a record pace to clear debris, with more than one-third of the affected home lots cleared by April. The cleanup is expected to be completed by January 2026.

The Los Angeles Fire Department fully lifted evacuation orders for all zones affected by the fire on June 15. The LAFD has been providing resources to help residents return safely to their properties, including the LA Disaster Relief Navigator, which offers personalized recovery plans.

As the community continues to recover, the City of Malibu remains committed to providing accurate information and resources to residents affected by the fire and subsequent storms. The city has also activated its storm plan to monitor and clear roads, ensuring public safety.
