Colorado Mom Accused Of Killing Two Children Can Be Extradited From The UK

A British court has ruled that Kimberlee Singler, a Colorado mother accused of drugging and killing her two children, can be extradited to the United States. The decision was made on Friday (January 24) by District Judge John Zani at Westminster Magistrates Court in London. Singler, 36, is accused of fatally shooting and stabbing her nine-year-old daughter, Elianna, and seven-year-old son, Aden, in Colorado Springs on December 19, 2023. She also allegedly injured her 11-year-old daughter, who survived and informed police of the incident.

Singler fled to the United Kingdom and was arrested in London on December 30, 2023. Her legal team opposed the extradition, arguing that a life sentence without parole in the U.S. would violate European human rights laws. However, Judge Zani ruled that extradition would be lawful, citing a “working mechanism of review” through executive clemency in Colorado. The case now awaits a decision from British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, and Singler plans to appeal the ruling to the British Supreme Court and possibly the European Court of Human Rights.

Prosecutors allege that Singler committed the crimes amid a custody dispute with her ex-husband, Kevin Wentz. DNA evidence linked her to the crime scene, and the surviving child reportedly stated that Singler claimed that “God made her do it.”

If extradited and convicted, Singler faces life imprisonment.
