Child Cancer Survivor Honored By Trump Has Heartbreaking New Diagnosis

The family of DevarjayeDJDaniel, the 13-year-old cancer survivor honored by President Donald Trump during his address to Congress, revealed that he now has “three new tumors.”

“It’s rough, there isn’t a class that can teach you how to deal with it. You’re hearing that your child has a nasty disease,” said Theodis Daniel, DJ’s father, via FOX 7 Austin this week.

“We’re just going around showing people, hey, you do care for one another. Let’s give compassion and let’s try to join and help each other get through things,” he added.

DJ was diagnosed with Stage 3 brain cancer at the age of 6 in September 2018, with a CAT scan revealing “a tumor the size of a lemon.” The child was given five months to live and, despite still having terminal cancer, has outlived the expectancy by more than six years.

DJ, who dreams of being a police officer, attended Trump’s joint session of Congress on March 4 as a special guest of the president and sworn in to the Secret Service as an honorary protector. The 13-year-old is approaching his goal of being sworn in by 1,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide, which would set a Guinness World Record and already holds records for “the most keys to the city” and “most proclamation days.”
