Former CBS Evening News anchor Jeff Glor was among the casualties in Paramount Global’s latest rounds of sweeping layoffs, the New York Post reports.
Glor, who worked as the CBS Evening News anchor from 2017 to 2019, had since served as the co-host of CBS Saturday Morning and was a CBS News special correspondent after his demotion. A source with knowledge of the situation told the New York Post that Glor’s salary was “too high” and he typically kept to himself, choosing not to play “office politics” or stick his neck out after being relegated to weekend duty.
Glor was reportedly among 2,000 Paramount employees included in the latest round of job cuts, according to Puck News founding partner and senior correspondent Dylan Byers.
Glor’s role as CBS Evening News anchor was previously filled by Norah O’Donnell, who is set to transition to a senior correspondent role after the 2024 presidential election, Paramount previously announced in July. CBS Evening News is reportedly set to undergo a massive overhaul, with the show moving from Washington, D.C., back to CBS‘ Broadcast Center in Manhattan and reformatted in a style similar to 60 Minutes featuring four veteran journalists, the New York Post reported last month.
The new format will be co-anchored by John Dickerson and CBS New York anchorman Maurice DuBois and feature Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan taking over lead political and foreign affairs coverage in Washington, as well as Lonnie Quinn serving as chief weathercaster.
