A cat named Mirage survived a nearly 400-foot fall at Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah, which tragically killed her two owners, Matthew Nannen, 45, and Bailee Crane, 58. The couple’s bodies were discovered on April 29, approximately 380 feet below Inspiration Point, where authorities believe they fell after climbing over a railing. The cause of the fall remains under investigation, as reported by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.
Mirage, a 12-year-old tabby cat, was found in a soft-sided carrier, dirty and torn from the fall. Despite sustaining fractured ribs and broken teeth, she is recovering well at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. Judah Battista, the chief sanctuary officer, described her survival as “remarkable” and noted that she is eating and drinking normally, with her bloodwork showing normal results. Battista expressed gratitude for the public’s support in providing Mirage with a safe environment during her recovery.
Authorities are still investigating the incident and have asked anyone with information to contact Garfield County Sheriff’s Detectives. Meanwhile, efforts are being made to contact the families of the deceased before considering adoption options for Mirage.
