A 79-year-old man named James Norman was killed during a carjacking in Norco on Monday. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call around 12:30 p.m. at a gas station on Hidden Valley Parkway. Norman was vacuuming his car when the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Ryan Hewitt, jumped into the driver’s seat and sped away.
As the suspect drove off, Norman was partially inside the vehicle and was dragged along the street before being ejected. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The vehicle was later found unoccupied near Polk Street and Magnolia Avenue in Riverside.
Authorities quickly identified Hewitt as the suspect. He was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of carjacking and murder. According to Fox LA, no additional suspects are believed to be involved.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the incident, urging anyone with information to come forward. This tragic event has left the community in shock, with authorities emphasizing there is no ongoing threat to the public.
