A new group of 500 Marines and sailors from Camp Pendleton has been deployed to the southern border in Arizona to assist with border security. This team, known as Task Force Forge, is part of the Combat Logistics Battalion 15, 1st Marine Logistics Group, and will provide critical engineering and logistical support as part of the Joint Task Force–Southern Border.
On Monday, Marine officials announced that Task Force Forge has assumed “operational responsibilities” under the presidential executive order issued on January 20, when President Donald Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border. This order directed the Department of Defense to aid in addressing the situation. According to ArcaMax, Lt. Col. Colin Graham, commanding officer of Task Force Forge, emphasized the mission’s goal to “support our federal partners and Joint Task Force-Southern Border, strengthen operational readiness, and support upholding the territorial integrity of our nation’s border with professionalism and precision.”
The Marines and sailors trained with the previous deployment, Task Force Sapper, to prepare for their mission. Task Force Forge will establish its presence in the Yuma sector, enhancing current support activities in the region. The Joint Task Force-Southern Border aims to execute full-scale, agile, and all-domain operations in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection to achieve full operational control of the southern border, as reported by I Marine Expeditionary Force.
The deployment comes amid ongoing efforts to bolster border security and address challenges at the U.S.-Mexico border. Task Force Forge’s involvement reflects the continued collaboration between military and federal agencies to manage border security effectively.
