California Nudist Resort Residents Sue Over Clothing Mandate

Residents of Olive Dell Ranch, a nudist resort in Colton, have filed a lawsuit against the new owners, alleging they are being forced to wear clothes, threatened with eviction, and subjected to unsafe living conditions. The lawsuit claims the new management is trying to remove longtime residents, many of whom are elderly, disabled, or veterans with limited housing options.

According to KTLA, the problems began after the property changed ownership. Notices were placed in mailboxes informing residents that clothing would be required at all times. Residents like Nancy Roeder, who has lived at the ranch for over a decade, expressed concern, saying, “We’re just trying to survive.”

Penny Palmer, a 12-year resident, believes the changes are aimed at driving people out. Allegations in the lawsuit include inflated utility bills, threats of eviction, and the removal of electric meters, leaving live wires exposed and cutting off power. Amenities covered by annual membership fees have reportedly been eliminated, with the pool turning green, the laundry room boarded up, and hot water shut off in community areas.

Sunshine Lorick, a former employee, claimed she was fired for questioning management practices. “She wanted me to charge extra money on people’s bills, and I refused,” Lorick said. Attempts to contact the new owners were unsuccessful, but property manager Darlene accused residents of vandalism and failing to pay rent, claims that tenants dispute.

The Olive Dell Ranch, nestled in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains, has been a destination for naturists since 1952. It was once known as the “friendliest nudist resort in Southern California.” Despite recent events, many residents are determined to stay, sending rent via certified mail and joining the lawsuit.

The ranch has faced media attention in the past year, including a tragic incident involving the discovery of a missing couple’s bodies beneath an RV. The suspect, Michael Royce Sparks, is awaiting trial in October.
